A statement denounces Georgetown Hospital authorities and claims Dr Vaughan will pursue relatives in Germany to prove authority for an alleged knee amputation of Albrecht. The letter asserts no consent was given by Albrecht or his associates to transfer or replace the knee, naming Gustave Buchholz and others as friends of the deceased and calling for a full inquiry into the surgical actions and authorities involved.

Fort Caswell tests new night firing method in coast artillery
At Fort Caswell North Carolina February 1 and 2 the coast artillery corps using a 28 inch gun battery demonstrated night firing with lighted tracers and a 16 by 24 foot target illuminated by searchlights. The moving target at 1700 to 2200 yards drew an average 60 percent hit rate. This marks the first night firing with service projectiles by the coast artillery and the result is regarded as highly satisfactory.
