Yale University Dramatic Rednecks arrived from Salem Ohio to perform Bernard Shaw’s The Devil’s Disciple at the Nhron Theater Pittsburgh. Irving G Beebe who plays Wile nearly hanged when the trap accidentally sprung during the Salem night performance. Beebe slipped into shadow as the knot tightened near his left ear choking him before William Lamble of Pittsburgh freed him and others slackened the knot.
Louisville reports show C C McChord of the Interstate Commerce Commission receiving hundreds of sympathy telegrams after his wife’s reported death from injuries. Doctors revised the major injury to a skull fracture that proved to be only a bruise, and Mrs McChord is near full recovery.
A New York peace dinner near Taft encounters turmoil as Roosevelt declines a formal invitation. Officials deny unauthorized actions by Millard Bloomer, while John Temple Graves and Stephen Griswold defend proper invitation procedures. Roosevelt’s seven page reply signals non attendance. Special to The Washington Sea from New York reports the engagement of Hubert Jordan and stage star Jane Laurel Malcolm known as Jaye Laurel. In Roane County Tennessee two brothers fought before their mother with one brother dying after a confrontation. Jacob Hembree surrendered claiming his brother had abused their mother with violent language. The other brother reportedly drew a knife before the fatal clash occurred.
In Wichita Kansas Mr and Mrs George Bailey both died within four hours on the same day at ages 76. Bailey a Civil War veteran died at home while his wife died earlier at Osawatomie State Hospital. Both were laid to rest in one grave.
The Washington Poet dispatch reports Mrs. Bentley gains a divorce after 28 years of marriage to John M. Bentley an American Steel Hoop Company official. The case centers on a romance with Jack OConnell of Coalton West Virginia noted by Bentley who produced a intimate letter from OConnell to his brown eyed daughter Mary. OConnell previously lived in Pittsburgh and testified in the matter.
In Cincinnati on December 26 Alfred Hesterburg of Queen City Brass and Iron Works witnessed his four year old mistress Lille Hesterburg in flames after a girl found matches and ignited her clothing. A confined door blocked escape, a dog barked frantically drawing a nurse to the scene, but the infant died from severe injuries.
Catherine Carter wed her seventh husband John Woodrum a 71 year old farmer from Casey county Kentucky in Vincennes Indiana dated December 2. All former husbands are dead. The bride did not know her exact age but estimated about 65.
Rome December 2 The Vatican declined to grant Count Boni de Castellane an annulment of his marriage to Anna Gould now Duchess of Talleyrand and Sagan. The decision, communicated to Castellane, held the marriage indissoluble absent impediments proven before the marriage. Duchess Anna Talley rand commented that a ruling in his favor would free her from moral duty to raise the children in their father’s religion.
A Japanese letter written by Lieut. Tsuma Sakuma, commander of submarine No. 6, as it sank in Hiroshima Bay after maneuvers, is photographed by the Japanese government and shown at the Library of Congress. The note expresses duty to country, pride in crews’ conduct, and hopes for relief for families, while detailing the sinking’s minute by minute events and the fate of the crew.

Al Jen admitted guilt as the conspirator in the Taft dynamiting case, pleading guilty to murdering Castella and Herbert Bells, two Negro children who owned valuable oil lands. He was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor. Allen’s confession followed the conviction of William Irwit, a white real estate dealer, on the same charge. Fran L. Martin will go on trial Thursday for murder in the same case, followed by John Coombs. Allen’s plea aimed to save his neck.
Brockton shoe manufacturers report an acute industry situation and announce a 60 cent per pair price increase. Leather costs climb, profits vanish at current prices, says Shoe Manufacturers' Association secretary T John Evans. The move may ripple to New England centers.

In New York on December 2 fifty patrons at a West Betty First Street gambling house were robbed by ten masked men. They were forced to line up against a wall while three tables were robbed of money and jewelry totaling about $2,000. The robbers fled. police were notified an hour later.
Lorain Ohio, Dec 26. Mrs Peter Thomas is cited for potentially earning a Carnegie medal after she captured two rabid bulldogs on Christmas day. The dogs bit an eight year old girl in her home, prompting the woman to shield the child by leaping into bed and covering her, while the animal also bit Mary John Thomas and Mrs Thomas before fleeing into the street.
Public Printer Samuel Donnelly and Senator Reed Smoot head a joint Congressional investigation into alleged thefts of expensive leather and related time misuse by bindery workers at the Government Printing Office. Dozens of witnesses have testified as six employees were dismissed over the past year for stealing supplies and binding books for private use.
