New Football Rules Tried In Ten Yard Game
In Wichita Washburn and Fairmount clubs played under a 0 yard gain on three downs rule and forward pass permitted. Neither side scored as Washburn gained 10 yards only four times and Fairmount three. Teams punted constantly and the forward pass produced many trick plays. Only four attempts to break through the line occurred with minimal yards to gain. Official John Outland says scoring would be possible under the new rule if points were counted against old rules. No injuries occurred. many foot ball men believe a four down rule would keep the game open and permit touchdowns.
