Outlaw Is Reforming President Glad To See Him

A mild man from Lawton Ohio named Al J Jennings once led a band of outlaws and train robbers in Oklahoma. He met President Roosevelt in Washington and said he seeks an honest life, pride in Oklahoma, and will not reveal his former comrades. Jennings, Virginia born, practiced law in El Reno before leading a crime wave, later jailed for life in Ohio, then freed by buying his way out and returning to his home region to seek redemption. He has written a book described as a nature study rather than history.

Baker Ends Life with Gas in Northwest City

Raymond Thompson, a 25 year old baker out of work, was found dead in his bed at 930 E Street Northwest from apparent self inflected gas asphyxiation. Coroner Nevitt deemed the death a suicide after noting a missing overcoat pawned for money to buy gas tubing and a tube found near his mouth. Thompson had visited parents in Newport Maryland two weeks earlier and leaves an aunt in Champlain Street. His body is held for parental orders.

ICC to Probe Railroads Coal and Oil Ties Next

The Interstate Commerce Commission will release a report detailing relations between certain railroads and coal and oil industries. Christmas Tree Delivered to White House Refused

A Christmas tree was sent to the White House by an express company but the sender did not cover charges so clerks refused receipt. The tree was carried away and will likely be returned to the sender. President Roosevelt plans a brief morning at the office with gift exchanges in private quarters.

Fleeced Credulous Clerk Convicts Three in Goerman Scam

Robert Thomas and Emmet Robinson, both colored, were accused of fleecing government clerk William J. Goerman of eight dollars. They pled guilty and received six months in jail. A pocketbook led to the arrest, with a counterfeit bill exposure. Henry Cheapniay, white, was found guilty on two similar charges and held for a grand jury on a third.

Japs Throng to Hawaii as 60,000 Japanese in Islands

Commissioner Sargent says about 60,000 Japanese in the Hawaiian Islands with arrivals of 600 to 1,000 monthly and 12,000 moving to the mainland in the last year. He notes Hawaiis labor demand drives passports to the islands and cites unrest against Japanese merchants underselling local traders.
