Moros polygamy cited by McIntyre as hindrance to Philippines independence
Brig Gen Frank McIntyre told the Senate Philippines committee that polygamy among Moros could not be stopped without bloodshed and urged removing a clause against plural marriages from a bill to grant self government. He said wealthier Moros view multiple wives as a status symbol and proposed replacing the independence pledge with a U S deemed timing provision. He also questioned a proposed bureau to supervise non Christian tribes, noting little antagonism with native officers.

Sir John, born 1852, served four years in the navy then joined the militia and the army.
