Pocahontas Statue Gift For Mrs Galt Reported

A Pocahontas memorial gift to Mrs. Galt, a 18 inch bronze replica of the Jamestown Island heroic statue, is being sent to Washington from the Pocahontas Memorial Association. The original work began in 1906 and is to be erected on Jamestown Island next spring. The sculpture by William Ordway Partridge uses studies from the Smithsonian and portrays the Algonquin princess in a moment of pleading with Powhatan’s daughter to spare the settlers. The gift is supported by the Daughters of the American Revolution and other patriotic groups with Mrs Ella Loraine Dorsey and Mrs Joseph T Fiddie among organizers.
