Father vanishes after mother’s death leaving four daughters

Four daughters aged two to nine are left in the care of neighbors at 610 Eighth Street Southwest after father John E. Parker disappeared eight days after his wife died on November 2. Special to The Washington Foot. In New York a civil suit pits Adelph J. Davis against Mia Helen Dwelle formerly of New Orleans. Davis seeks $8,000 he says he lent during their five month engagement while Dwelle claims she gave the 11,000 diamond necklace to Davis to sell. Two hearings have occurred at Jefferson Market Police Court with another set for Wednesday. Davis defends his action as routine in the legal process.
