A well dressed man posing as MC Berlefech a salesman from New Haven Conn found pearls in oysters at a Greek restaurant on Huguenot Street New Rochelle. He retrieved eight pearls from his meal and pocketed several more. A local jeweler offered a price for the pearls which the man refused.
New York couple Charles and Ethel Davis were arrested in Norfolk after detectives received tips from New York City. Officers found more than $800 worth of jewelry in their room at 168 Avon Street. The man swallowed a diamond from a ring during police examination, while authorities seized a necklace, three diamond rings, two gold watches, sunburst gold lockets, mesh purses, and other items. Photographs and descriptions were sent to New York police.
Peter Boyd a well known Philadelphia lawyer and president of the Tradesmens Trust Company shot himself in his office after the bank failed and he faced demands on estates he managed. He was a prominent Republican speaker and executor of large estates. His death followed the trust company’s receivership and a conference with the receiver Percy McChandler. He leaves a wife and a one year old son.
Lillian Bell, famed author, says her separation from Arthur Bogue is final and she will not return. She accuses him of not loving or supporting her and plans to travel after the holidays with her father, refusing divorce. She criticizes marriage timing and plans to continue readings in Chicago before leaving for the West.

Maryland lawmaker Cy Cummings of Chevy Chase was wounded when a rifle shot shattered glass from a U Street line Capital Traction car near Eighteenth and U streets. A negro boy was seen with a rifle nearby. the assailant fled and was not found. injury to Cummings not serious.
Pryce Lawis, identified by Charles Newkirk of Jersey City from clothing, died after jumping 30 feet from the World Building. The 83-year-old claimed Civil War exploits, said to be a former bodyguard to President Lincoln, after a rejected pension claim.
Philadelphia financier P A B Widener, already owning Rembrandt’s The Mill, is reported to have acquired three more Rembrandts for about 31 million. The trio includes Apostle Peter at a Writing Desk, Portrait of a Man, and a scriptural piece, praised as exceptionally fine examples. The purchase marks one of the most significant American art acquisitions of the era.

President Taft endorses Secretary Meyer plan to reorganize the bureau of navigation and replace Rear Admiral Nicholson with a new commander. Nicholson agrees to retire after conferences with Taft and Meyer, removing opposition from some Congressional admirals’ friends.
