George A. Lowy of Kansas City attempted a lone bank raid at J. W. Brinkman Co. Bank in Great Bend Kansas. A Wells Fargo driver, Bud Westfall, was killed by a stray shot during the pursuit. Lowy barricaded himself on the second floor, urged bystanders to help him, and finally surrendered after an hour of negotiation. The cashier A. E. Taylor led the chase. a bystander, Mrs Anna Tyler, died in terror after warning the robber.
