Bill to Aid Teachers Establish Retirement Fund in District
Rep Madden of Illinois introduces a House bill to create a teachers retirement fund in the District. The plan assembles a permanent fund from gifts and fees, then funds an annuity through interest, portions of annual salaries, and end-of-year balances. A Board of Trustees, including two school-board members, the superintendent, and six teachers, would govern the fund with eligibility rules for long-serving educators. An Oct 1910 start marks the program begun for teachers in the District of Columbia public schools.
