A Rock Springs Wyoming head on collision between an Overland Limited passenger train and a freight train killed ten people including three cooks, with eleven train employees and eight passengers injured. The freight ignored a meet order at Absar, causing a fatal derailment and fires that destroyed three cars. Many injured were treated at the nearby Wyoming State Hospital as survivors faced a long recovery.
