Truce Saves 7 Billion From War Budget Cancellations
Secretary Baker told the Senate Finance Committee that contract cancellations would save about 7.25 billion of the 24.251 billion wartime Army appropriation. The House committee cited revised projections of roughly seven billion in savings, with only about 1.09 million to cover remaining contracts. Baker outlined cancellations by category and noted civilian orders precedence, powder surplus storage concerns, and continued use of Muscle Shoals and Neville Island facilities.
