Attorney rebuked in Supreme Court for partisan remarks during case
Alexander S. Bacon of New York argued before the Supreme Court that War Department officials must be compelled to bring Reeves’s records into court to seek reinstatement and three-fourths pay. He claimed imperialism and warned officials to bow to the scepter or be lickspittles. Justice White interrupted, Bacon apologized, then concluded his remarks. Also before the court Wade Zils argued for trust busting babies. Calhoun heirs sought Greenwood plantation in South Carolina, disputing a 1890 will and estate settlement amid destroyed records.
