World Fliers Start Alaska-to-World Flight From Seattle
Lowell Thomas chronicles the April 6 1924 departure of the world fliers led by Maj. Martin. The crew departed Lake Washington in four Liberty-engined cruisers, saluted by escort planes, passing Vancouver Island through fog and rain as they headed toward Alaska on the first leg of their bid to circle the globe.
