Pullman propose rate cut for upper berths draws opposition
The Pu Man Company bid to cut upper berth prices to 1.24 and ease some lower berth rates faced opposition from four state attorneys general and two railroads at the Interstate Commerce Commission. Railroads argued they would shoulder part of the loss, while AGs contended the reduction is insufficient and reflects little service value. Industrial sections gain as census shows faster midwest growth
Census figures show Pennsylvania and West Virginia posting swifter population gains between 180 and 1910 than the prior decade with West Virginia up over 2 percent and Pennsylvania near 2 percent. These shifts bolster the view that urban and industrial centers expand at agricultural regions' expense, with Pennsylvania gaining seven and West Virginia one congressman.
