Four youths aged 4 to 18 tried to wreck the Chicago express southbound of the Illinois Central Railroad near Kankakee Illinois. Those attending the conference will be Attorney General Wickersham, Secretary of Commerce and Labor Nagel, Interstate Commerce Commissioners Knanp and Prouty, and Solicitor General Bowery. The conferences will be held behind closed doors. The general aim is to extend the bureau of corporations and related offices, enlarging the division within the Department of Commerce and Separate bureaus in other departments, with a view to creating a cabinet-level executive department overseeing corporations doing interstate business, excluding railroads.

Bickle a former Southern Railway mail clerk aged unknown almost severed his head with a razor at his home this morning He had been a mail clerk on a train from Cherieston May 18 the night of an express car robbery The body was found in a chest after the train reached Augusta Express company officials did not connect Bickle to the robbery but detectives had questioned him recently Bickle and baggage master G P Humphries who cut his throat two months ago were linked to the same incident by authorities.
Mrs Dacier Bolter aged 18 wife of farmer J B Bolter near Fairmont was shot by Jos Hates a Spartanburg chain gang guard who had employed her as a housekeeper. He accused her of selling his cow and disposing of blankets before her marriage. A bullet struck him and her husband as they drove into a relative's yard. their young daughter was wounded.
Mrs Carrie Sanders a 41 year old mother in St Joseph Missouri administered morphine to five of her six children in a fit of insanity on August 29. A neighbor spotted her during an attempt on the sixth child and she confessed. Weldon a child aged five died after the attempt. The mother also took poison and cut her throat but doctors expect her to recover.
Father D Phelan proposes a novel family suffrage system in Missouri to boost birthrates. Each child adds votes to the family total, with split couples allowing father and mother to cast separate votes, effectively rewarding large families and excluding childless households.
