Five new smallpox cases reported in Washington area
Five new smallpox cases were reported to the health office including Mrs. Lilly Kieny and her three children at 737 Fifteenth Street NE. Diagnoses shifted from chickenpox to smallpox after a physician suspected otherwise and a health inspector confirmed the illness, prompting quarantine of the Kieny home and nearby 729 Fifteenth Street occupied by Blanche Hess.
