West Will Hold Out Maj Morrow Stands Firm

West resists compromise over a Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington railroad station site with Maj Morrow, arguing the Fourteenth Street option lacks public support. Absent commissioner Macfarland may decide the vote from New York, delaying resolution. West favors between Four and a half and Seventh streets. Morrow supports Fourteenth and Water southwest. The three commissioners earlier approved the latter but withdrew, seeking further consideration. The issue may hinge on legal opinions and possible mandamus actions.

Editor Joseph Machianteh argues in Washington on August 26 1908 that flying machines fail due to propeller driven wind misalignment and poor center of pressure. He criticizes various designs and says engines should use wind from propellers to cool motors and maintain equilibrium without gyroscopes.
