Special correspondence from Sunnyside Prince Edward Island examines Canadian attitudes toward reciprocity with the United States. Businessmen favor a commercial pact while imperial sentiment and anti American feeling restrain steps toward unlimited free trade. Roosevelt prospects weighed against military fame in 19th century politics
An editorial decries charismatic campaigners driven by aggressive instruction, arguing historic magnetic figures like Scott and Hancock failed not for charm but for lacking fitness and policy alignment. It asserts voters favor a leader’s proven ability to execute bold, wise policies over personal appeal.
