William P. Riwerds, Utica accountant, was lost nine days in the woods and is recovering, able to eat kota food and showing strength daily. His sons, who used bloodhounds to locate him, found him at the camp where their father rests near Utica tonight.

August Roth of Ridgeville Wisconsin died from smoke inhalation while trying to save stock in a burning yarn. His daughter Hulda Roth suffered fatal burns in the same incident in Lacrosse Wisconsin on August 22.
In Chicago on August 22 the estate of Richard T. Gibson was sold to satisfy creditors. Personal belongings including a Gloucester collection and family heirlooms fetched about $3,235, bought by attorney J. B. Johnson. Preston Gibson attended briefly. Mrs. Gibson claimed many items were hers and would be removed.
A noon attempt to blow up the incoming Short Ling passenger train near St Peter's Dome between Cripple Creek and Colorado Springs failed when a livery window in the front car broke. M J McCarthy, Victor deputy State mine inspector, grabbed the device as several women fainted. A similar attack on the same train at Dufield occurred yesterday. the dynamiters escaped but the sheriff pursued them.
Johnstown and Harrisburg reports center on James M. Shumaker former superintendent of public buildings and grounds who vows to testify fully in September. He says a high Harrisburg official manipulated funds to hide a treasury shortage and shield a dead senator. Shumaker claims he is innocent and ready to reveal secrets. Philadelphia Aug 2.
Marion Story miniature painter and yachtsman, son of poet and sculptor Wow Story, and grandson of Justice Joseph Story, shot himself in the library of his Port Chester estate after a period of insanity. He had estranged from his wife for some time and spent recent months in Europe seeking health. He left a large fortune, was active in finance and yachting, and belonged to multiple clubs including the New York Yacht Club and the Weathchester Hunt Club.
A Sioux man named Bea Shirt, living near White River in the Rosebud area, shot himself after a dispute over housing with his bride and her mother in law. The incident stands among few recorded Sioux suicides. Meanwhile a travel note mentions Friday departures to Pennsylvania and trips to Atlantic City and Wildwood, with train times and rates.
Winchester Va Aug 22 Special to The Washington The Bishop Robert Atkinson Gibson of the Protestant Diocese of Virginia and Rev Thomas Carter Page rector of Cavalry Church Front Royal sustained serious injuries when a motor car struck their horse driven carriage on the turnpike near White Plain Clarke County. The horse bolted and both men were thrown against a stone fence. The Bishop was reported resting quietly tonight.
Burton, an American resident in London, became an involuntary passenger aboard a Hamburg American liner. He departed from Hamburg and boarded at Cherbourg to bid farewell to an old friend, forgot to disembark, and ended up at sea with six borrowed collars, planning to return to England by the Deutscher liner.
Bourne Falmouth Mashpee fire wardens said the large Cape Cod blaze has the backfires under control after burning over twenty square miles south of the area. Officials warned that a strong wind could rekindle flames within the village areas, and warned of heavy losses to standing timber.
Special to The Washingtons Onancock Va August 22 one of three negroes wanted for snerting riots and shooting three white men surrendered to authorities this morning. The negro was escorted to the town hall under guard as crowds remained calm and law took its course. Col Nottingham and an officer left town to bring Sam Burton, said to be the riot leader, to Norfolk for safekeeping. Burton and Conquest will be taken to Norfolk tomorrow morning. The town remains quiet with leaders in custody and no further trouble expected.
In Indianapolis a canvass of prominent Methodists has favored Samuel L Wilson for delegate to the quadrennial conference in Baltimore over Fairbanks. Wilson, 26 years in Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, is praised for temperance and long service. The Phalanx Prohibition group attacks Fairbanks for serving cocktails at President Roosevelt’s Memorial Day dinner, fueling the contest.
