Little Tobacco on Market Amid Heavy Rains and Quiet Demand
Danville and Durham markets report light leaf receipts and mixed quality. Old tobacco mainly for last season, new crop slow to enter, prices stable with cautious optimism for rising values as the season progresses. Weather improved in places, but flood-prone lowlands suffer drainage issues and leaf damage. Growth on uplands varies, with frog eyes and minor hail affecting some lots. The Durham chamber of commerce reorganization aims to boost the leaf trade, while American Tobacco expands storage facilities in the area.

Peanuts Prove Stasis Defies Old Proverb at Polo Grounds
A New York Sun letter mocks the idea that things must move forward or backward, noting the peanut bags at the Polo Grounds remain unchanged while the ball grounds improve and the New Yorks shine. The author wryly seeks the peanut concession as reward for his eccentric proof.
