LOW TOBACCO MARKET UPS AND DOWNS IN NC AND VA
Heavy rains harm tobacco areas in North Carolina with flood-plain low lands badly damaged. In Danville and Durham markets, sales are slow and prices steady to unchanged. Old tobacco and scrap trades give way to new crop hopes as weather improves, while storage expansion by American Tobacco and a Durham chamber reshuffle signal industry momentum. South Boston reports light offerings, mostly 1903 crop, with cutting to begin next week and plants showing mixed health from drainage and hail. Frog eyes disease and green worm presence noted but limited overall impact.
