Camel Bones Found In Kansas Lake Bed
Lawrence Kans Aug 20 Halft a ton of fossil bones new for the University of Kansas museu discovered in Sherman county by H T Martin curator and Curtis Hesee. They spent four weeks this summer near Gond land Kans shoveling over 100 tons of sand to uncover remains. Parts of at least fifteen species of mammals were found including three camel species one giraffe sized and another as small as a sheep, two rhinoceros, three species of three-toed horse, dog, cat, peccary, deer and mastodons. The fossils lay in a former lake bed about 300 feet square, several feet underground, requiring a plow and scraper to reach.
