The prize court decision released today holds that Hamburg America Line’s steamship Dacia, registered in America in January and seized by a French cruiser in February, did not prove a legitimate flag transfer. The court finds the transfer tainted with fraud and that the ship under the new flag was sailing a voyage undertaken under the enemy flag. It orders the steamer seized. The American cotton cargo linked to the ship had been partly financed by the French government. Also, Kenneth D. McKellar of Memphis declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate to succeed Luke Lea of Nashville.
