Fight in Gaines district as GOP seeks nomination solution
In the Third District Republican contest between W. S. Edwards and Joseph H. Gaines for the nomination the mechanisms of party unity are debated. The Republican National Committee proposes either a primary in Kanawha and Fayette counties or an independent umpire with a final binding decision. Edwards leans to any settlement, Gaines has not agreed. Leaders fear two conventions unless a settlement arrives before the Hinton meeting.
