Why Donkeys Don't Shy
From Person's Weekly the article explains horse ancestry in plains making them alert to hidden threats while donkeys descend from hill dwelling ancestors facing cliffs and dangerous paths. This led to cautious, slower behavior and avoidance of sudden starts.
Queer hotel charges European establishments where soap is extra
Pearson's Weekly surveys odd hotel fees across Europe. Tyrol hotels bill for “office” time, South Germany for crappage, Northern Spain for nightshirts, and luggage storage. Vienna rooms add charges for brushing clothes, Russia towels at bath price, and Corsican hotels tax toilet necessities. Greek and Italian inns levy match fees, table decorations, lighting, and postages. Romanian and Serbian charges reflect taxes and rank, with Belgrade lifting pennies per ascent. Continentwide quirks culminate in a Copenhagen temperance hotel charging pence per day for smokers.
