Taft seals reform to curb risky District insurance
President Taft signed a sweeping district insurance bill raising required capital to 25 000 for basic policies and 100 000 for higher death or sickness benefits. Washington officials predict up to fifteen firms will exit the business as weaker companies are cleared out. The measure aims to end swindles and ensure only reputable insurers operate in the capital.
