Verdict finds accident unavoidable in Potomac regatta disaster
A coroner's jury in Washington returned an eight line verdict that the drowning deaths from the Recreation launch tragedy during a Potomac regatta were accidental and unavoidable. Only one witness argued the craft might have been overloaded while others contended it was seaworthy and not overcrowded. The inquiry lasted about an hour with witnesses detailing the voyage from Reagan's boat house to the mill race and the moment the four women boarded.

Meat Prices and Garbage Unprecedented Supply Demand
President M M Parker of the Washington Fertilizer Company asks District Commissioners to assess two more fines for failure to remove garbage through the vegetable surge. He argues increased tonnage from higher meat prices and vegetable consumption reflects conditions beyond his control, noting fifteen cars and sixty nine teams in use and warning earlier contracts produced similar complaint levels with lower fines. Commissioner Macfarland supports fining to enforce contract compliance amid movement troubles beyond the company’s control.
