New Office Building Begun for Department of Labor
Ground was broken at 1712 Street NW for a nine story office building to house the Department of Labor under a five year lease. Contractors are Gormley and Walsh with Milburn Meister as architects. Completion is planned by July 1, 1917 at a total investment of about 429,006 dollars, featuring modern lighting, vapor heating, indirect electric lighting, and steel fireproof construction. Eight dwellings on Tennessee Avenue NE and a private residence at 3100 35th Street NW also started, costing 25,000 and 9,000 dollars respectively.
