Earth Caves Threaten Post Office Area in Staunton
Report from Staunton Virginia describes earth sinking on Baldwin Street near the post office and government offices. A third hole opened behind Prof. C L Wilson’s home, bringing cracks toward Lewla Creek and the public school, with water plummeting to the bottom of a crevice and a suction-pump blamed for removing moisture from the soil. Officials expect expert guidance from Washington to assess the widening hazard.
