Grace Baptist Choir Marks Twenty-Fifth Anniversary in Baltimore
The Grace Baptist Church choir led by Edward Laughton emerged four years ago from a small congregation group formed by the late Rev. Jamen Jeque in Baltimore. Early efforts leaned on voluntary singers with Mrs. Van Horn and Miss Julia Stromberger contributing voice and support, while the chapel housed a reed organ. The first formal choir formed on November 1, 1901, under Jeque, who died before hearing the choir mature. the initial lineup included Miss Blanche Binclay, Miss Mamie Turner, and others as they rehearsed and prepared for services.
