Pleasure craft seeks broad federal regulation under law
The American Association of Masters and Pilots of Steam Vessels pressed for a new law to bring all pleasure craft under government steamboat inspection. Luther B. Dow met Acting Secretary Murray as officials admit current rules cover only ships of fifteen tons and up. Unregulated launches in New York Harbor ferry river traffic, often unlicensed and without life preservers, prompted arrests for operating without proper franchise. Dow warned they are a danger, and the association will push for a law extending control to all vessels.
