Disaster at Eden Bridge Drowns Dozens Near Pueblo
Wreck of the World's Fair flyer on the Denver and Rio Grande near Eden Colorado seven miles north of Pueblo last night sparked one of the nation’s great rail disasters. A trestle failed sending a locomotive and cars into the dry creek bed, with nearly a hundred believed dead. Fireman Frank Mayfield perished, while four men escaped. Rescue teams and physicians rushed to the scene as corpses floated along Fountain River and were brought to Pueblo morgues. Identifications were reported for many victims, with searchers still tallying the dead as debris blocked access and the river flooded the wreck area.
