Keeping U S Rifles Clean and Servicable
The current U S rifle model should last at least ten years. Ordance officers aim to prevent condemning thousands of rifles labeled worn out when still serviceable. A circular states rifles should endure 600 to 12000 rounds before becoming inaccurate. Many rifles rejected as unserviceable suffer from poor cleaning and abrasives, not actual wear. Worn muzzles with rusted barrels will be tested by expert riflemen and not condemned unless accuracy is significantly reduced.
