Speaker Clark and tariff reformers tried to force the ways and means committee to take up other schedules including iron and steel. Underwood and Fitzgerald defeated the resolution. The uncovering of Chairman Underwood will serve a useful purpose.
Mr. Underwood denies Breen’s insinuation about blocking the iron and steel schedule. He recalls informing the committee to take up the schedule first and warns Democratic members would resign if misrepresented the party’s stance.

In Marietta Ohio on August 2 the bodies of 16 year old No Mooney and 19 year old Mary McCamb were found in the Muskingam River. Their boat was later recovered with only their purses aboard. No marks of violence were detected.
Thieves broke into James P. Coyle’s manicure shop at 103 West 34th Street near Broadway and stole 10 000 puffs 200 hair switches and beauty lotions valued at 10 000. Five finger marks were found on a mirror as police plan further inquiries tomorrow.
