Nationwide Milk Shortage Feared Across the Nation
Milk dealers in New York have raised the price of milk one cent per quart while Washington dairymen report no general increase in the District of Columbia. Many dealers have not yet decided to raise prices but warn that higher costs may be needed to cover feed and drying pastures. State May Curb High Coal Prices
Chicago July 31 Practic action by the state to curb high coal prices was recommended to the Illinois State council of defense by the council committee after meetings with Illinois coal mine operators. The report notes coal selling at 2 to 2.50 per ton, up from 1.35, wages up 20 cents, and calls for possible price control or a special legislative session to grant more powers to the council. Federal action has been delayed and ineffective. Illinois may take price control as a last resort.
