Cramton Amends District Bill To Shift More Costs On Localites
In a move likely to raise local taxes, Representative Louis C. Cramton of Michigan will offer an amendment to the District appropriation bill to have the Federal government contribute 8 million dollars annually instead of 40 percent of the district’s costs. The plan would abolish a 40 year policy and push the district to cover more than 60 percent of expenses. Debate on the bill continued with limited attendance and mixed support from lawmakers, while several representatives argued for fair federal contributions or criticized local tax rates. Harry Berman filed for bankruptcy in the District Supreme Court as debts reached 14,990 with assets 10,925.
