Navy Yard Siding to Stay Despite Removal Push
District Commissioners will take no further action to remove the road siding into the Washington Navy Yard. The Navy Department argued removal would cut access, and the siding remains as essential for government operations. A two year limit was proposed, with immediate removal of tracks if grade crossings were eliminated. House committee aides indicate Navy Yard employees warned work could stop without the siding.
