Miners Cause Upheld as Innocent Says AFL Council
The American Federation of Labor executive council declares Moyer Haywood and Pettibone innocent of the Steunenberg murder and demands a fair trial for the three. Gompers, its president, says he has nothing further to say beyond the council resolutions. The council, including eight vice presidents and officers, published the stance in the May AFL list amid Roosevelt’s criticisms of the miners as undesirable citizens.
