District Sells Land for Naval Observatory Expansion
District commissioners and the Navy reach a $194 404 sale agreement for the Industrial School site to support Naval Observatory expansion. Senator Hale has introduced a bill to authorize the extension of the deal as the Navy seeks more land to reduce vibration dust and smoke affecting instruments. The old seven acre site will be replaced with a larger, modern complex for the Industrial Home School and a colored children’s home at Shepherd's Landing when moved.
