Success of creameries prompts government guidance

The Department of Agriculture after 27 inquiries found creamery failures mostly due to too few cows with 409 needed, and coop creameries suffered from poor organization and high costs. Building a 28 by 48 foot facility ranges $800 to $1,400, machinery for a 600 pound daily butter plant about $1,200, plus $609 to $1,000 for refrigeration. The department offers plans for organization and machinery on request. Concrete tombstones enter a rising industry noting concrete’s economy and artistic potential for integrated ornament and reproductions of marble or granite at lower cost.
