Ford bid backers push to end Shoals hearings
Supporters of Henry Ford's Muscle Shoals bid moved to block Senate agriculture committee efforts to extend hearings beyond the April 29 end date. Ford advocates favored shutting off talks as chairman Norris sought more time due to a lengthy Hooker-White-Atterbury proposal. Opponents argued for amendments to secure fertilizer production and power distribution, warning the proposal could enable Ford to enter any field of manufacture and disadvantage Southern manufacturers.
