Names include Capt Harry May Mrs Harry May engineer Fred Pringle mate Carlton Graves and several sailors with unconfirmed crew members. Wreckage and cables found along Pentwater to Little Point Sauble beach support the loss, with no definite contact since leaving Manistee.
In Oxford Pennsylvania on a betting gate of three dollars, Mme Lascelles an animal trainer was mauled by a lioness. The beast ripped at her arms shoulders and breast before the crowd was driven to safety. Medics report severe injuries and uncertain recovery.
Special to The Washington Fest from New Augusta Mississippi dated April 24 reports a first in state history a dog mating its own will and having it offered for probate. The will signed by the hound with two witnesses allocated $250 to be used for the care of the dog until death and later administration by Ford McAllister the deceased owner’s son after the hound Tobe died leaving progeny and a belief in preserving the bequest.
In New York on April 2 a Brooklyn Italian merchant Viago Mardone was found fatally wounded in his apartment after barricading himself nightly against threats from Black Hand blackmailers. Two men entered by a window and fired, escaping unseen. prior letters demanded $1,000.
American Railway Association officials in Chicago report a dangerous latent flaw in many steel rails. A committee with chemists and metallurgists found that rails manufactured today have a tendency to snap under the impact of fast trains, contributing to disasters.
San Francisco April 2 Jack London sails the Snark a 45 foot ketch bound for Honolulu on a voyage around the world. The crew includes Mrs London Herbert Stoltz a Stanford graduate and athlete Roscoe Hames captain and other unnamed companions aboard as the vessel departs today.
