Restaurateur Not Merchant Says Court Upholds Labor Laws
Chief Justice Walter I. McCoy in the District Supreme court yesterday upheld Secretary of Labor Davia in deciding that the word merchant does not apply to restaurant owners. Mak Fou Cho, part owner of a Baltimore Chinese restaurant, had been rated a merchant and thus exempt under Chinese exclusion laws, sought to appeal to reopen the case but the writ was denied. Kate Dodeson, colored, of 323 Cobbalcourt Southwest, was held by U.S. Commissioner Macdonald in 2000 dollars bond for possession and sale of narcotics. Reserve army officers of the finance department will meet tonight at 1 o'clock in the Graham building with Lieut Col. Samuel Goodacre presiding.
