A bill introduced in the House by Mr Lavering of Wassachusetts proposes that savings and building associations may issue expanding house certificates up to 20 percent of bank capital. The Treasury and Currency officials would assess market conditions, with banks in good standing able to back these securities deposited with the association under Treasury approval. Connecticut Representative Defends Five Navy Secs in Five Years
Representative George L Lilley of Connecticut told a House committee that the Electric Boat Company profited excessively from government contracts. Cross examination by Martin Littleton failed to force him to retract charges that Navy officials were incompetent. Lilley claimed the problem was not the officers but that only capable businessmen should handle government contracts. The committee adjourned until morning with unresolved questions about the sources of some letters and political fallout.
