Withdraw Mediation Offer On Washington Virginia Line Strike
The Department of Labor withdrew its bid to mediate the Washington Virginia line dispute, citing lack of jurisdiction where operations were uninterrupted. Washington Virginia line officials said they recognize no union and that service has not been interfered with, so mediation is unnecessary. About 50 workers were locked out for forming a union, and a Clarendon meeting backed the strikers with threats of a local boycott.
