Lincoln Farm Bill Clears House Amid Cannon Reminiscences
The House passed a government purchase bill for the Lincoln home site in Kentucky where Abraham Lincoln was born after Speaker Cannon delivered a long reminiscence of Lincoln. He criticized reformers, praised Lincoln’s practicality, and warned that heroes are often self-made, a remark met with laughter from the chamber.
