Emperor receives retiring American ambassador in private audience
Vienna April 12 Emperor Francis Joseph privately received retiring American Ambassador Bellamy Storer at the foreign office request. Storer wore a day suit to show the unofficial nature of the audience and was thanked for excellent relations with the Austro Hungarian foreign ministry. The Emperor expressed personal regret at his departure and promised cordial memories. The twenty minute audience preceded Storer's Paris trip. The Emperor will likely give the customary departing gift a signed jeweled photograph. The audience has eased tensions between the foreign office and the American legation. Secretary Rives will be chargé d affaires until Charles Francis arrives as the new ambassador.
