Young Bureau Library Grows Into National Resource
The Bureau of the Census library, started in 1899 from a dusty stockroom, has expanded into a major national reference with 13 bound volumes and 23,231 pamphlets plus extensive exchange networks with foreign and American publishers. Led by Mrs. Kate M. Wilson, it now draws on exchanges to strengthen its statistical, economic, and demographic collections, aiming to become a leading authoritative library for government and public use.
