Skyline Limit Denied for Fifteenth Street Bank Block
Washington officials refused Metropolitan Citizens Bank permission to build higher than a 76 foot skyline opposite the Treasury on Fifteenth Street, with a mansard roof option allowed above that height. Bank directors argued the cap would ruin returns on a $300,000 to $400,000 project and harm stockholders. Discussions touched on Congress setting building limits near public buildings and potential damages for restrictions, with remarks from Bank President Parker and Col George Truesdell among others. The hearing followed by coverage of a funeral for Maj Henry Le Riseoe.
